During a recent trip to Austin, Texas, we finally managed to walk the Lady Bird Lake Boardwalk. This was less a hike and more a walk, but beautiful nonetheless.
You’ll get a great view of the ever-changing and ever-growing Austin Skyline. During my very first visit to Austin in 2006, you could easily make out the “Owl” Building or Frost Bank Tower. It’s so difficult to see now, though it’s still the third tallest building in Austin (for now…).
The Lady Bird Lake Boardwalk is easy to walk, full of runners, cyclists, and walkers. It wasn’t too busy during our visit. Unless you count the turtles crowding the logs in the water.
Lady Bird Lake Boardwalk Details
Hike: out-and-back
Length: up to 4 miles (or extend to any length along the Lady Bird Lake Hike and Bike Trail)
Park: Between South First Street and Auditorium Shore (close to South First Bridge) or at the Austin Statesman (be aware that there is a charge for parking)
Where to go: Head south along Lady Bird Lake from South First Bridge until you hit the Boardwalk, continue on for about 2 miles then turn around.
Don’t forget: water, sunscreen, a hat
Have a great walk!
